Two men and a 7-year-old boy are dead after two Jeeps overturned on a hillside in rural Sonoma County.
The crash was reported at 5:45 p.m. Monday on private property at the Happy Hills Hunting Club, northwest of Cazadero.
According to the California Highway Patrol, one of the Jeeps went off a dirt road and overturned, tumbling about 300 feet into a ravine.
A second Jeep, whose occupants were attempting to reach the victims, then slid down the same hillside.
Pronounced dead at the scene were Matthew Sousa, 32, of Santa Rosa, and his 7-year-old son, Jason Sousa, who were in the first Jeep. The second Jeep’s driver, Justin Gregori, 49, of Sebastopol, was airlifted to a Santa Rosa hospital; he died there Thursday.
Sousa’s two other sons suffered injuries requiring hospitalization. Gregori’s two sons had injuries not considered life-threatening.
Because of darkness, fog and the rugged terrain, it took emergency responders about 50 minutes to reach the crash site.
