Isuzu UK started an extensive search this past autumn to find the highest-mileage Isuzu D-Max truck still on the road in the United Kingdom. It struck pay dirt when it located a 2014 D-Max 2.5-liter turbo diesel with 351,364 miles, or the equivalent of circumnavigating the globe 14-times. When you buy a truck brand new in 2014 and then drive an average 43,750 miles per year you can literally commute to the moon and be halfway back to Earth. As the crow flies Earth is 238,855 miles away from the moon.
This high-mileage Isuzu D-Max is still running on the original engine and manual transmission. The tires, brakes and clutch were replaced during regular servicing, and its only major repair was to the rear differential in 2021
The truck was first purchased brand new in 2014 from Bob Gerard Isuzu in Leicester, England and belongs to vehicle sales and service dealer, Aston Melton Mowbray, where it’s used daily for towing and logistical support. Aston Melton Mowbray is a non-Isuzu dealer that provides vehicle delivery service and uses the D-Max to deliver and collect vehicles throughout the U.K.
“When the business was looking for a vehicle capable of towing 3.5-tonnes on a daily basis back in 2012, we wanted something that would not only do the job but would also prove to be the most cost-effective for the business,” said James Jeal of Aston Melton Mowbray. “At which time the Isuzu D-Max became the obvious choice”
This Isuzu is going to need to stay on the road a lot longer to pass the current high-mileage record holders. As of this article Irv Gordon’s 1966 Volvo P1800 has the world record for a personal car with more than 3.4-million miles and the current truck record holder is a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado with 1.29 million miles.
