A teenager was killed Saturday morning when gunfire erupted at Williamson Ranch Park in Antioch.
The 16-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, was shot several times shortly after 11:20 a.m. on the east side of a parking lot of the park, according to the Antioch Police Department. The teen died after being taken to a nearby hospital, police said.
The shooting appears to have begun after the boy — as well as another juvenile — met with the occupants of a dark-colored sedan in the parking lot, police said in a press release. Multiple shots appear to have been fired around the sedan, police said. Moments later, the car was seen speeding away from the park at 5000 Lone Tree Way.
The other juvenile also fled the scene when the gunfire began, police said. Officers managed to track down the juvenile — who was allegedly carrying a loaded gun — at a nearby Walmart with the help of bystanders in the area, according to the police department.
No arrests have been announced in the killing, and police have not released any further details on what might have precipitated the gunfire.
