More than 350 people arrived at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Saturday, Dec. 3 under cloudy skies, occasional drizzle and brisk temperatures to join Cars & Coffee for a Cause to benefit the Food Bank for Monterey County. In just two hours, five large barrels were overflowing with donations that will be dispersed to families in need this holiday season.
“The Food Bank provides such a valuable service throughout Monterey County, and this year more than ever is relying on fundraisers and community support to help our neighbors,” commented John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “We are humbled to play even a small role in helping.”
Approximately 60 percent were returning Cars & Coffee guests. Yet despite the uncertain weather, a number of locals who had heard about the fundraiser arrived with both canned goods and toys. Even one guest had an enormous teddy bear buckled in his front seat to present to the Food Bank.
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca season partners also joined in the morning’s activities. Monterey Touring Vehicles had a display of three classic cars, while Coastal Roots Hospitality brewed and served delicious coffee and hot chocolate.
This was the final Cars & Coffee of the year and was a noticeably quiet affair than previous gatherings. With the track closed for construction projects and repaving, the welcome sights and sounds of cars on track were replaced with geese honking overhead and birds chirping in the trees that fill the Laguna Seca Recreation Area campground.
