A traffic collision on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Saturday night left one man dead and another under arrest on suspicion of drunk driving, authorities said.
At around 11:45 p.m., the suspected drunken driver slammed his black Cadillac Escalade into a man who had gotten out of a black Hyundai Elantra that was in an earlier non-injury crash on the eastbound lanes of the bridge.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Escalade driver and his female passenger were taken to Stanford Hospital with serious injuries. The driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
Authorities closed the eastbound lanes of the bridge until around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
