A 24-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of a November assault and robbery of a man who was attacked while he was on a date in Menlo Park — and authorities said the woman on the date fled with the assailants after the attack.
Police responded to reports of an assault around 5:55 p.m. Nov. 18 on the 3600 block of Haven Avenue. Officers found the 35-year old victim suffering from injuries from being punched, kicked and pistol-whipped on his head.
Investigations found that the victim was on a date with a woman he met on a dating app.
The pair were sitting in his parked vehicle when two men approached. One of the men pulled the victim from the vehicle, then assaulted and robbed him of an unspecified amount of cash. The two suspects then fled the scene — and were joined “willingly” in their flight by the woman who had been on the date, according to authorities.
Police said they developed information that led them to a suspect who lived on the block where the robbery took place, but authorities did not immediately specify that information.
The 24-year old suspect was arrested at his home on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and robbery, authorities said. Police said they found the firearm allegedly used during the incident while searching the suspect’s residence.
Police did not release any information about the other suspect in the assault, nor about the woman who had been on the date.
