One person has been arrested in a pair of robberies earlier this fall at a San Mateo laundromat.

A 21-year-old Oakland man was taken into custody last week on suspicion of robbery, carjacking and aggravated mayhem in the violent hold-ups, which happened at about 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 at a laundromat in the 1400 block of Cary Avenue, according to the San Mateo Police Department. The Oakland Police Department helped arrest the man.

Authorities did not detail the man’s alleged role in the robberies while announcing his arrest.

Authorities suspect a 19-year-old Alameda man pulled a gun on a visitor to the laundromat and — along with his brother — beat the person unconscious. After taking his belongings, the robbers then accosted a second laundromat visitor, the police department said.

San Mateo police later arrested the Alameda man on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft, committing a felony while on release and conspiracy.

One victim has since been released from the hospital, though the other remained hospitalized as of Thursday.

A third assailant remains wanted by San Mateo police in connection with the robberies. Anyone with information can call police at 650-522-7662 or send an email to krodenspiel@cityofsanmateo.org. Anonymous tips also can be submitted by calling 650-522-7676, or by going to tinyurl.com/SMPDTIPs.
