A 38-year-old Castro Valley man fatally shot Nov. 20 by another man police said he was attacking with a baseball bat inside a Dublin apartment was identified Tuesday as Kenneth Krainski.
Police said after the incident that they were investigating the shooting as self-defense. Investigators were preparing this week to present the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether to file charges.
The man who did the shooting has not been identified. He was released after questioning.
The shooting happened about 4 p.m. Nov. 20 inside an apartment in the 7100 block of San Ramon Road, the home of the man who did the shooting.
The man was in a relationship with a woman who was also at the apartment, when Krainski, the woman’s estranged husband, showed up unannounced, police said. The two men did not know each other, police said.
Police still have not said how Krainski knew the woman was at the apartment.
Krainski had a baseball bat with him and began hitting the man who lives at the apartment, police said.
The man, fearing for his life, was able to get a shotgun and shoot Krainski, police said. Krainski died at the apartment.
The resident was treated at the scene for injuries, The woman was not hurt.
