Bay Area residents will need to bust out their holiday sweaters and then umbrellas as a bout of cold weather is expected to land in the region followed by rain.

Starting Tuesday morning and continuing into Wednesday, both the South and East Bay will drop into the low 40s to upper 30s — with frost expected in Gilroy, Livermore and Concord. Temperatures could drop to the low 30s farther inland in both areas, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Dalton Behringer.

NWS is advising residents to keep an eye on people, pets, plants and water pipes.

On Thursday, rain will make its way to the region with one inch expected in both the South and East Bay. Temperatures throughout the Bay Area will climb back up to the mid-50s. There is a small possibility of flooding in region’s mountainous areas, Behringer said.
