SAN FRANCISCO — A man was rescued from underneath a train at the Powell St BART station this morning.

The station was closed from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. while the San Francisco Fire Department completed the rescue.

It is not yet known how the man ended up on the tracks but he has been transported to a local hospital and BART police do not suspect any foul play was involved.

“Powell Street Station is reopened for normal train service. It had been closed due to a major medical emergency – a person in the trackway,” said Jim Allison, BART Media Relations Manager.

“That person entered the trackway and was rescued by the San Francisco Fire Department.”

In an email, the San Francisco Fire Department said: “Fire responded for a person under the train at 7:30 a.m. The adult was rescued by SFFD and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.”

Some residual delays may be experienced on the train line this morning.
