The Automobili Pininfarina Battista is the quickest production car in the world by going from 0-60 mph in 1.79 seconds. The previous record was held by the Koenigsegg Gemera with a 1.9-second 0-60 mph jaunt, but the pure-electric Battista wasn’t done with record-setting performance. At the Dubai Autodrome in the United Arab Emirates, the Battista set three more production-car acceleration records:

0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 1.86s

0-120 mph in 4.49s

0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 4.75s

To let the automotive world that it’s not just a straight-line demon, the Battista set an EV world record by braking from 100-0 km/h in 31 meters, which translates to 62 mph in 101.8 feet to those with American sensibilities.

“Perfectly optimized weight distribution and low centre of gravity are at the heart of this result,” Paolo Dellacha, Automobili Pininfarina Chief Product and Engineering Officer says. “The combination of bespoke chassis and suspension tuning, tyres proven over many thousands of test miles and four-motor torque vectoring delivering unprecedented power enables Battista to be the fastest accelerating road-legal car in the world.”

The mind-bending acceleration of the Battista makes sense considering the 1,900 horsepower and 1,725 lb-ft of torque on tap. The extensive horsepower is courtesy of a high-capacity 120kWh lithium-ion battery and four independent motors, one driving each wheel. It features full torque vectoring, electronic stability control and a software differential that allows drivers to customize power delivery and handling to their respective preferences. All these factors give the Battista a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h) and a range of 300 miles.

Initial deliveries of this all-electric hypercar to worldwide customers have already begun. Of course, with a price tag of $2,615,074, one should expect world-class speed and braking, if not a mind-boggling 128 million possible interior combinations for discerning patrons. As the Battista takes 1,250 hours to produce and will have a limited run of no more than 150 units, it stands to reason why velocity and exclusivity are often linked.
