SAN JOSE — A woman was killed Friday night when the SUV she was driving crashed into a vacant building, police said Saturday.

The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of her relatives.

The collision happened about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Bailey Avenue.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe the woman was speeding in a 2021 Mercedes SUV northbound on Santa Teresa when the vehicle left the road and hit the building, throwing the woman from the SUV. She died in the crash.

Police said it is the city’s 58th fatal collision, and the 60th traffic death of 2022, matching the 25-year peak and modern record of 60 reached in 2021, 2019 and 2015, with more than a month remaining in the current year.
