Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1940 Willys Coupe powered by a supercharged 540ci V8 featuring Dart heads, Littlefield blower, fenderwell headers and two-stage nitrous system. Power is sent rearward through a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission and meets the pavement via Mickey Thompson drag radials. Finished in blue over gray, and equipped with roll cage and safety harness, this Willys is offered with build records and a clear New Hampshire title in the seller’s name.
This 1940 Willys coupe uses a street rod body from Outlaw Performance in Avonmore, Pennsylvania that was coated in Intense Blue Pearl. Custom treatments include a tilt nose, recessed headlights and taillights, shaved door handles and chrome side pipes. The seller notes that there is a quarter-sized ding on the nose.
Polished aluminum Centerline 15-inch wheels feature staggered-width and staggered-diameter tires, with the rears being Mickey Thompson drag radials.
The two-tone gray and blue interior features gray power-adjustable cloth bucket seats, full roll cage and a four-point safety harness on the driver’s side. Amenities include power windows, door poppers and air conditioning.
Instrumentation measures velocity, fuel, water temperature and boost, among other vitals; an AutoMeter tachometer is attached to the top left of the roll cage. The odometer reportedly shows 500 miles, though the actual mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The supercharged 540ci V8 is based on an aluminum block from New Century Performance that has been upgraded with Dart blower heads, Blower Drive Service fuel-injection system, Littlefield 1471 blower kit, two-stage nitrous system, fenderwell headers and dual radiators (copper up front, aluminum at the rear). According to the seller, the motor was serviced in September 2022 but could use a tune-up because the vehicle has been sitting. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic with Hurst lockout shifter.
This Willys rides on a boxed frame with a chromed Pinto front suspension, four cross-members, two driveshaft safety loops and a quick-change rear end. Disc brakes handle bringing the vehicle to a halt. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the auction’s photo gallery.
