PIEDMONT — Three masked suspects who robbed an elementary school employee of her purse and cell phone Monday as she walked to her car are being sought by police.

The woman was not injured.

The robbery happened about 12:26 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Bonita Avenue.

The woman, a staff member at Havens Elementary School, located at 323 Highland Ave., was walking on Bonita outside the school grounds when she was confronted by three masked males who grabbed her cell phone and purse, police said.

The suspects fled the area in a newer model black sedan. Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not available.

Police are asking residents in the 200 and 300 blocks of Bonita Avenue to review their video surveillance footage from between 12:10 p.m. and 12:40 p.m. Monday. If any residents or other possible witnesses have any information about the robbery they are asked to call Piedmont police at 510-420-3000.

The broad daylight robbery prompted a message to the Piedmont community from Interim Superintendent Donald Evans, who called what happened “very upsetting.”

“The timing of the robbery in the middle of the day when students are present is deeply concerning,” Evans wrote in the message. “I remind you and your children to please be aware of your surroundings when walking to or from school, keep valuables out of sight and report any suspicious persons or behavior.”
