For 1972, Dodge redesigned its D-series truck line. This iteration would last all the way through 1993 until it was replaced by the landmark 1994 Ram that was influenced by big rigs. One of these vehicles, a 1972 Dodge D100 Utiline pickup, is featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com. Conveniences include air conditioning, Kenwood audio system, power steering and power disc brakes. This Mopar utility is powered by a 318ci V8 paired to the legendary TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Finished in Blue Metallic over a blue cloth and vinyl interior, this D100 has recently received mechanical work underneath the hood, including new timing chain, and is now offered with an owner’s manual and clear Florida title in the seller’s name.
This Medium Blue metallic D100 Utiline features a “stepside” short-wheelbase configuration with a cargo bed trimmed in wood panels on its interior planks as well as the exterior, all of which have been recently revarnished. Exterior features include bodyside moldings, chrome side-view mirrors and sliding rear window. The seller notes that there is some corrosion on the lower body panels, which can be seen in the auction photo gallery.
Chrome-finished 15-inch Smoothie wheels are wrapped in mixed Hankook Ventus and Cooper Cobra tires.
The interior of the cab is fitted with a blue cloth and vinyl bench seat with color-matched dash, custom wood door panels and tan carpeting. Amenities include air conditioning, wood-rimmed steering wheel, tinted windows and modern Kenwood eXcelon AM/FM/CD audio system with backup camera.
Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer and accompanying gauges for fuel, alternator and coolant temperature, plus an idiot light for the oil pressure. An aftermarket Bosch fuel gauge and three-pod cluster showing coolant temperature, voltage and oil pressure are mounted beneath the dash. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 51K miles, though the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The stalwart 318 is fed by a Holley four-barrel carburetor. Recent service includes replacement of the radiator, timing chain and fuel pump. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed TorqueFlite automatic, of which the seller notes has a transmission leak.
Photos showing the underside are available in the photo gallery. Power disc brakes handle the stopping chores, with the brake pads having been replaced under the seller’s ownership; the shock absorbers also have been replaced.
