Teacher of the year
Ann Borgia-Camp, a third-grade teacher at Saratoga Elementary School, was recently named the 2022 Saratoga Union School District Teacher of the Year. Borgia-Camp has been a teacher in the district for 36 years.
“Ann teaches like her hair is on fire,” said Saratoga Elementary School principal Kristin Murphy in a statement. “She pushes all of us to bring out the best educator we can within ourselves.”
Borgia-Camp was among those honored Oct. 24 at the Santa Clara County Teachers of the Year Celebration at the Campbell Heritage Theater.
Parent care conference
Saratoga Federated Church is hosting a Nov. 12 conference and resource fair for residents caring for aging parents. The conference is set for 1-4:30 p.m., with the fair open from 4-5:30 p.m.
The conference will include speaker sessions, information booths and other resources to support those caring for aging parents and other relatives.

Night light hazards webinar
The Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter and the Sierra Club Bay Alive Campaign are co-hosting a Nov. 16 webinar on dark sky and bird-friendly building and lighting design.
The webinar will address the biological and physical effects of LED over-lighting at night and present strategies for providing safe and practical lighting solutions.
Speakers are from UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, the American Bird Conservancy’s Glass Collisions Program, J Dark Sky Consulting, LLC and the Portland Audubon Society’s BirdSafe and Lights Out program.
