WALNUT CREEK — A Pittsburg man has been arrested in the attempted sexual assault of a woman Oct. 6 in an elevator at the Walnut Creek BART station, authorities said.
The 34-year-old suspect was arrested by a BART police sergeant Saturday morning in the parking lot at the North Concord BART Station.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a serious sex crime, kidnapping, false imprisonment and robbery, authorities said. He was being held Monday at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $675,000 bail.
Authorities said the 20-year-old Daly City woman was attacked shortly before midnight on Oct. 6.
BART spokesman Chris Filippi said both the woman and suspect had exited a train when the suspect allegedly forced the woman into an elevator and attempted to take her pants off.
The woman, who did not know the suspect, was able to fight off the attack and contact BART police, Filippi said. She declined medical attention.
The suspect fled before police got to the station.
After reviewing video surveillance, BART police were able to put out a description of the attacker, which led to the suspect’s arrest without incident Saturday, authorities said.
