Want to get a last dose of summer in before snuggling up under a blanket with a pumpkin spice latte?

Now’s your chance.

After a stretch of cooler, cloudy weather, the Bay Area is expected to warm up considerably mid-week, with temperatures reaching as high as 88 degrees in the East Bay. It likely will be one of the last bursts of heat before we transition fully into cooler fall weather.

“We will have a bit of a warm-up toward mid-week, and then more cooling late week and into the weekend,” National Weather Service meteorologist Sean Miller said.

On average, temperatures will be between 80 and 85 degrees — with highs hitting between 5 and 15 degrees above normal for this time of year, Miller said. Forecasters expect a high of 84 degrees in San Jose on Wednesday, 79 in Oakland and 77 in San Francisco. Concord is expected to hit 88 degrees.

Temperatures should then drop Friday and into the weekend.

These types of temperature fluctuations are common this time of year as we transition into fall, Miller said. This upcoming warming trend will be caused by a ridge of high pressure building inland throughout California and the rest of the west, he said.

It follows a burst of rain in mid-September, followed by cool, foggy conditions throughout the Bay Area — both of which have tamped down wildfire risk.
