OAKLAND — A 53-year-old woman found dead in her East Oakland home Wednesday evening had severe trauma to her body and the death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Wednesday.
The woman’s name was not immediately released.
Investigators said she was found inside her home in the 2500 block of 82nd Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday by a relative who came to check on her after not hearing from her for a few days.
Police said the woman had suffered severe blunt force trauma. An autopsy will determine when she was killed and the exact cause of death, but police are investigating the case as a homicide, investigators said.
A motive for the killing is under investigation. No arrests were announced.
The killing is the 104th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has also investigated five homicides on Oakland freeways. Last year at this time Oakland police had investigated 110 homicides in the city.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
