Unified women’s middleweight champion Claressa Shields returns to the ring for the first time since defeating Ema Kozin in February, to face fellow champion Savannah Marshall for the undisputed championship in the main event of a Top Rank Boxing card at the O2 in London on Saturday (ESPN+, 2:30 p.m. ET).
Shields (12-0, 2 KOs), 27, of Flint, Michigan, won the undisputed middleweight title with a victory over Christina Hammer in April 2019. She vacated the WBO belt to move down to junior middleweight (where she won the 154-pound division undisputed championship) before returning to middleweight.
Marshall (12-0, 10 KOs), 31, of County Durham, United Kingdom, won the vacant WBO belt by defeating Hannah Rankin two years ago. Marshall has defended her title three times, including an impressive third-round KO of Femke Hermans in April.
In the co-main event, WBO and IBF junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer faces WBC champ Alycia Baumgardner in a 10-round three-title unification fight.
Mayer (17-0, 5 KOs), 32, of Woodland Hills, California, won the then vacant WBO belt with a unanimous decision victory over Ewa Brodnicka in October 2020. She added the IBF belt by defeating Maiva Hamadouche also by unanimous decision 11 months ago. Mayer defended the belts in April against Jennifer Han.
Baumgardner (12-1, 7 KOs), 28, of Fremont, Ohio, flew to Sheffield, England and stop Terri Harper in Round 3 to win her title in November 2021. In April she defended the belt in a a unanimous decision win over Edith Soledad Matthysse.
