Educational support

Thanks to community and corporate support, Family Giving Tree (FGT) was able to provide 28,390 Bay Area K-12 students with brand-new backpacks and fresh school supplies for the new school year. FGT’s annual Back-to-School Drive exceeded the 26,000 distribution goal set for the year, and the Milpitas-based nonprofit is looking to to return to pre-pandemic numbers of more than 40,000.

“The look on students’ faces as they pick the backpack they will use for the school year makes all the hard work worth it,” FGT founder and CEO Jennifer Cullenbine said in a statement. “This year has been a real financial struggle for so many Bay Area families, and the tangible support by their community means a lot.”

Hundreds of volunteers worked to support the Back-to-School Drive. Media partners for the event were NBC Bay Area, Telemundo 48, KCBS Radio and Alpha Media.

Family Giving Tree is planning its 2022 Holiday Wish Drive, with the goal of granting 40,000 holiday wishes. To learn more about how to get involved, visit familygivingtree.org

Getting a ‘Clue’

Milpitas Community Theatre is staging “Clue: The Musical,” a show with 216 possible solutions, for one weekend only, Nov. 4-6. As in the board game, the audience is given cards to mark down the clues that are found so they can try to figure out who is the murderer. This is the company’s first dinner theater show.
