OAKLAND — A campus that houses multiple schools in East Oakland remained closed Thursday morning after an afternoon shooting wounded six adults.

The schools in the 8200 block of Fontaine Street all are housed in an Oakland Unified School District building. The gunfire happened about 1 p.m. in a portion of the school complex known as the Rudsdale.

At least one person fired a weapon, Oakland Police Assistant Chief Darren Allison said in a Wednesday news conference. Authorities did not release information about a suspect or suspects in the shooting, and no arrests were announced as of Thursday morning.

As of Wednesday evening, two of the people wounded were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to police. Four other people were expected to recover from their injuries.

Police and hospital officials had no update on their conditions early Thursday. They have not said whether the victims were school staff or adult students.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
