An Indiana public interest lawyer filed a lawsuit against the Education Department to block the Biden administration’s plan to cancel billions of dollars of federal student debt, saying it would force a state tax liability on him and other borrowers.
The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, presenting a legal challenge to the administration’s debt relief plan just weeks before the midterm elections. It argues the administration made an end-run around Congress.
