OAKLAND — A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in East Oakland Friday night, authorities said.
His name has not yet been released by police.
Officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert found the man about 8:52 p.m. Friday outside in the 10600 block of E Street, a residential area in the Stonehurst district.. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A motive for the killing is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
The killing is the 93rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.
It was the second homicide in less than seven hours Friday. A man was killed and two other men, including a guard, were wounded in a shooting during an attempted robbery of a Brinks armored truck that happened about 1:57 p.m. Friday in a parking lot in the 4400 block of International Boulevard.
The California Highway Patrol has also investigated five homicides on Oakland freeways this year.
Last year at this time Oakland police had investigated 100 homicides in the city.
