SMART transit
The City of Milpitas was set to launch Milpitas SMART (Simple Mobile Access to Reliable Transit) Sept. 15 in partnership with Valley Transportation Authority and RideCo to provide residents, workers, and visitors in Milpitas with.
Milpitas SMART is an app-based local transit service that will provide convenient, safe and affordable connections from home or work to the Great Mall, Milpitas Town Center and city hall, Milpitas Transit Center and BART, or any VTA light rail station.
This local service will operate Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-6 p.m., using minivans with ADA access and maximum wait times of 10-15 minutes. The regular adult fare will be $2.50 per ride, $1 per ride for youth, disabled and low-income populations.
Compassion Week
The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted Sept. 6 to co-sponsor the 10th anniversary of Compassion Week, set for Oct. 15-23. Since its inception, more than 18,000 Compassion Week volunteers have participated in 975 projects and activities at 85 organizations on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.
Compassion Week is an annual collaborative effort by the Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation, Fremont Bank, multiple local faith communities and Santa Clara County. Activities bring people of all ages and abilities together to support more than 50 nonprofits focusing on basic needs such as food, shelter, education and homelessness as well as supporting veterans, older adults and environmental efforts. Milpitas. Volunteer registration was set to open Sept. 13 at compassionweeklosaltos.org.
