The body of an Oakland man who drowned Wednesday at Sandy Beach in Rio Vista was recovered Sunday morning.

The victim was identified as Carlos Estevez, 20.

He was spotted around 8:40 a.m. in the waters south of Sandy Beach. He was brought in by the Solano County Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Patrol. Members had been readying for the fourth day of their search.

Events unfolded Wednesday, as Estevez and his family enjoyed a day at the beach. Disaster struck as he jumped in near the boat launch, officials have said, and disappeared not long after his struggle was noticed.

Deputies, the Coast Guard, Rio Vista police and fire crews and the Montezuma Fire Protection District responded to the area. The search was paused at sunset.

Various agencies from throughout the region had joined the Marine Patrol in each day’s search.
