SAN JOSE — Firefighters knocked down a fire that erupted Friday after a vehicle struck an apartment building in San Jose, authorities said.

According to social media posts, San Jose Fire Department firefighters responded to the collision and blaze at 3:54 p.m. at the building on the 5600 block of Calmor Court in the city’s Edenvale neighborhood.

Firefighters arriving aboard at least four engines and three trucks with two battalion chiefs found heavy smoke and flames, due in part to a gas meter struck during the collision.

A second alarm was called at 4:16 p.m., with fire found burning into the attic of the two-story, four-unit building. Pacific Gas and Electric crews also responded, securing the building’s electricity and eventually its gas connection.

The fire was placed under control shortly before 8:10 p.m. A firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment of what was described as non-life-threatening injury.

There were no reports of the collision’s cause, or damage extent at the scene.
