UNION CITY — A 29-year-old Hayward man has been named as one of three suspects arrested on suspicion of multiple charges in connection with a robbery and injury shooting last week, authorities said.
Around 12:36 p.m. August 3, police responded to reports of that shooting near 8th and H streets, with officers arriving to find a 44-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released.
In a statement Tuesday, police said the man had been driving nearby when he saw two people robbing a victim of her jewelry before running to a getaway vehicle.
The man was following that vehicle to get its license plate and a description when someone in the vehicle shot at and hit him, police said.
Officers were able to find the getaway vehicle’s occupants in Oakland, where they were arrested. Police said a vehicle search recovered a high-capacity pistol magazine, but no weapons.
Two juveniles, 16- and 17-year-olds from Hayward, were each arrested on suspicion of robbery, with the two respectively arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.
The third occupant, a 29-year-old Hayward man, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, assault with a semi-automatic firearm and evading arrest.
Police said the man was sought on an outstanding warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The man was listed in custody Tuesday night at Santa Rita Jail, held on $275,000 and awaiting plea and probation revocation hearings August 15 at Dublin’s East County Hall of Justice, according to an Alameda County records check.
An officer reached Tuesday night said that police had not seen any similar incidents before or since the arrests, and confirmed that investigators had presented case evidence to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for possible charging.
