OAKLAND — A man was hospitalized and another was taken into custody in connection with separate and unrelated shootings Sunday in East Oakland neighborhoods, authorities said.
Shortly before 4:35 p.m., officers responded to a call reporting a person shot near 42nd Avenue and International Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they found a man on the ground near a gas station suffering from gunshot wounds to his abdomen, and provided care until paramedics and Oakland Fire Department firefighters arrived to take over. The man was later taken to a hospital. His condition was not available Sunday night.
Around 4:50 p.m., an officer driving in a patrol vehicle near 55th Avenue and International Boulevard heard gunshots, and saw several people who appeared to be involved.
Soon after other officers’ arrival, a man was taken in custody in connection with the shooting and a firearm was recovered, but a second person managed to flee in a vehicle. Police said they could not provide any information on possible injuries, citing an ongoing investigation, and did not provide descriptions of any suspect or associated vehicle.
