  • A new Cadillac electric crossover has been spied testing, which will slot in below the Lyriq in Cadillac’s lineup as the brand looks to go fully electric by 2030.
  • The compact EV crossover appears to share many design elements with the Lyriq, with two-piece taillights and a sloped rear windshield.

Cadillac’s push towards an electric lineup is underway. Deliveries of Cadillac’s first EV, the Lyriq crossover, have just begun, and the Celestiq concept will be a hand-built, ultra-expensive flagship when it goes into production for 2025. Now we’re getting a glimpse at one of Cadillac’s smaller, more mainstream EVs, with spy photos showing the automaker testing a smaller crossover that will slot below the Lyriq.

Overall, this prototype appears to share many design cues with its larger sibling. While it is clearly downsized in terms of width, wheelbase, and overall length, the new EV shares a similar shape to the Lyriq with a sharply angled rear window. However, the hood is much shorter than on Lyriq, as are the front and rear overhangs.

The camouflage obscures most of the details, but we can spot vertical lighting at the corners on the front end, suggesting similar LED elements framing the grille like on the Lyriq. The rear end also appears to mimic the Lyriq with two-piece taillights—a vertical element runs up the D-pillar and while another vertical lightning unit sits below.

The most interesting design element is a vertical center-mounted brake light that appears to sprout as fin from the middle of the rear windshield. The brake light also appears to be topped by a winged trim piece, which may be a temporary detail for testing or could aid the car’s aerodynamics.

According to Automotive News, the compact electric crossover will be built at General Motors’ plant in Ramos Arizpe in Mexico. The compact electric crossover’s name is not yet known, but it will presumably end in “iq” and Cadillac has trademarked “Ascendiq,” “Lumistiq,” and “Vistiq.” The compact Cadillac EV crossover is expected to arrive in late 2024 for the 2025 model year.
