HAYWARD — BART officials reopened service Wednesday after a stabbing aboard a train injured a man and led to the South Hayward station’s closure for more than two hours, authorities said.
Shortly before 8:10 p.m., BART police responded to reports of an altercation aboard a train at the station, BART spokesperson Cheryl Stalter said.
A man stabbed in that altercation suffered an unspecified non-life-threatening injury, Stalter said.
Police investigating the incident recovered a weapon but have not yet placed a suspect in custody, she added.
Station staff began single-tracking trains along the Berryessa line between Hayward and Union City stations without stopping, with mutual-aid service provided by AC Transit’s No. 99 bus.
The station reopened shortly before 10:45 p.m., with investigators actively working to gather information about the incident.
