PACIFICA – A would-be catalytic converter thief opened fire Wednesday morning in Pacifica after he was confronted by a resident armed with a BB gun, police said.
No one was injured in the shooting, which was reported around 4:45 a.m. on the 600 block of Edgemar Avenue.
At the scene, officers learned that the resident had seen two men trying to steal a catalytic converter from a car parked on the street, the Pacifica Police Department said in a statement.
Police said the resident armed himself with a BB gun and confronted the men, one of whom fired several shots. The shots hit the side of a home.
The men then got into a waiting vehicle and drove off toward Manor Drive, police said.
The men were in their 30s and spoke to each other in Spanish, police said. Their vehicle, which was possibly occupied by a third person, was described as a Ford midsize SUV.
Officers searched the area but did not find the men or the SUV. They also checked the surrounding neighborhood for evidence and surveillance cameras that possibly captured the SUV.
“If you see something, say something,” police said in the statement. “Do not risk your safety by confronting suspects in the commission of criminal acts who may be armed. Call 911.”
