EAST PALO ALTO — A man was found stabbed to death inside a home late Friday, marking East Palo Alto’s fourth homicide of the year, according to police.

Saturday evening, police said they arrested a man in San Francisco in connection with the killing.

Police were called at 11:12 p.m. to a residence in the 1900 block of Cooley Avenue for a report of a stabbing, police said in a news release. Responding officers found a 50-year-old man with serious injuries, and he died at the home.

Police identified the victim as Mario Ventura. Late Saturday, authorities issued a news release announcing that 47-year-old Darnell McKean, also an East Palo Alto resident, had been identified as a suspect in the stabbing and that he had been arrested after being located in the Mission District in San Francisco.

In the case update, police said only that McKean stabbed Ventura during an argument, and released no other details about the circumstances of the alleged attack. McKean was expected to be booked into the San Mateo County jail on suspicion of murder.

East Palo Alto police said the homicide investigation and search for McKean was joined by the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office, the county gang task force, and police from Atherton, Menlo Park and San Francisco.
