FREMONT — BART officials resumed service between the system’s Fremont and Milpitas stations Monday afternoon after a grass fire broke out along the tracks and stopped service for nearly an hour, authorities said.

Shortly after 6:05 p.m., Fremont Fire Department firefighters responded aboard two engines to the fire at the system’s Warm Springs BART station in the 45100 block of Warm Springs Boulevard.

Station staff began turning back trains along the Berryessa line at Fremont and Milpitas stations, with shuttle service ferrying some passengers between the two alongside mutual-aid service provided by AC Transit’s No. 217 bus. AC Transit will accept BART tickets or Clipper cards as bus fare on that line.

A BART spokesman said service was expected to resume as soon as firefighters extinguished the blaze and station staff were able to inspect the tracks. No word was immediately available on any injuries.
