ANTIOCH — A person was found dead inside a structure that caught fire Monday in a city neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly after 8 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at a home in the 3300 block of Serpentine Drive.
When firefighters arrived within minutes aboard four engines and a truck, they found flames and smoke coming from a garage and spreading to a home at the corner of Halite Way and Serpentine.
After bringing the fire under control shortly before 9 p.m., firefighters inspecting the home found the body of a person inside. The person was pronounced dead at the scene, and their identity was not available from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division, pending next-of-kin notification.
A ConFire investigator was at the scene late Monday. A cause was under investigation, and there were no other initial reports of injury or property damage estimates.
