SAN JOSE — The driver of a black Honda sedan was killed late Friday when his car left the road and crashed into a light pole.

Police responded to the solo crash at about 11:47 p.m. near Aborn Road and Brigadoon Way, a wide intersection in East San Jose surrounded by residences and down the street from a Red Lobster restaurant.

The male victim had been driving westbound in the third-from-leftmost lane on Aborn Road. It’s unclear why his car left the roadway. He was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities will not release the victim’s identity until next-of-kin is notified. This is the 38th fatal collision and 40th traffic death so far this year, police said.

San Jose police said members of the public with information on the traffic death can reach the department’s traffic investigations unit at 3556@sanjoseca.gov or by calling 408-277-4654.
