EL CERRITO — A Pittsburg man was in county jail after his arrest Tuesday on suspicion of attempted homicide in connection with an injury shooting, authorities said.
In a statement Wednesday afternoon, police said officers responded around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday to a report of gunshots heard near School and South 53rd streets.
They arrived to find a victim on the 900 block of South 55th Street suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers gave the victim aid until paramedics arrived to take them to an area hospital, where they were later listed in critical condition.
After learning a shooting suspect fled the scene, officers found a vehicle nearby and heard new reports of a person seen running through yards.
Following a search, officers found and detained a 32-year-old man hiding in a home near the shooting scene and recovered a firearm, police said.
The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into Contra Costa County jail.
Police did not immediately respond to follow-up questions about the shooting.
