OAKLAND — A man was fatally shot Sunday morning in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
In a statement Sunday evening, police said officers responded to the 2000 block of 13th Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. for a shooting report. Officers arrived to find the man near the intersection of 13th Avenue and East 21st Street suffering from gunshot wounds.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators gave no indication Sunday morning for a motive behind the killing, and did not announce any arrests or suspect or vehicle descriptions.
The shooting represents the 63rd death investigated as a homicide by Oakland police so far this year. At this point last year, Oakland police had investigated 73 homicides. The California Highway Patrol also has investigated four homicides this year on freeways within city limits.
