At the time of this writing, the past month has been fraught with tragedy. Specifically, mass murders in a supermarket in New York and an elementary school in Texas. At Combat Handguns we’re dedicated to providing you the best in defensive firepower, and our Sept/Oct 2022 issue is loaded.
Combat Handguns Sept/Oct 2022
Before delving into our topic, let us recognize that people in the gun industry and America’s law-abiding gun owners are mourning these tragedies alongside every other American, and we want these senseless mass murders and acts of violence to end. Purely evil people misusing guns pose a huge threat to society, as well as to our Second Amendment rights.
Truth be told, you couldn’t have avoided the news of these tragedies if you had tried to do so. So, it’s strange that you have to look long and hard to find the story of a heroic armed woman who stopped another potential mass murder.
Tying in with our cover of author Mariah Lynn fielding a new Walther PDP F-Series 9mm, there’s the story of an alpha female who used her legally owned firearm to prevent what likely would have resulted in many dead and many more wounded.
Lawful Gun Owner Saves Graduation Party
On May 29, about 40 people were attending a combination birthday/graduation party at a West Virginia apartment complex. At the height of the party a man sped by the party driving recklessly. Individuals from the party asked the man to slow down since children were playing in the area.
The twice-convicted felon left but soon returned with a rifle—illegal for him to possess, given his felony status—and began firing it into the crowd. A woman who was attending the party immediately drew her legally concealed firearm and fatally shot the deranged man. This immediately put a stop to the attack.
“She’s just a member of the community who was carrying her weapon lawfully,” said Lt. Tony Hazelett with the Charleston Police Department. “And instead of running from the threat she engaged with the threat and saved several lives.”
Guns Really Do Save Lives
If you think it is rare for armed citizens to save themselves and others with their firearms, you’ve been listening to so-called “mainstream” media too much. And it’s not only men who do so. With a little digging I found multiple instances of armed women protecting themselves and others. All during a two-week period in late May and early June, 2022.
In Texas, a woman was in her home with at least one child. At that time, a man she knew broke into her home, prompting her to shoot him. Only a few days later in Maryland, a female convenience store manager was nearly the victim of a carjacking before pulling her gun, causing the criminal to flee.
In another incident, a lunatic threatened to kill the occupants of a Houston, Texas, apartment. He violently kicked in the door before the woman living there shot him.
In Florida, a 69-year-old grandmother was forced to use her firearm when an unhinged man entered her home and wouldn’t leave.
And a 74-year-old California woman shot and killed a violent attacker on her property. She had an elder abuse restraining order against the man. But her gun turned out to be more effective than the piece of paper.
Freedom is Worth Fighting For
I mention all this Combat Handgun’s Sept./Oct. 2022 guest editorial to make the point that freedom is worth fighting for. And the protection provided by armed citizens—women and men, alike—must not be strangled by those who cry for politicians to “just do something” after every mass murder.
As much as the Administrative State led by Joe Biden, other politicians and countless unelected agency officials want Americans to believe that more gun laws will act as some magic wand to end these killings, the truth is that they are using these tragedies for personal gain—to get reelected.
As our readers well know, the vast majority of gun owners—both women and men—are legal and responsible. A much smaller minority misuses firearms illegally for criminal purposes.
Biden and other gun-ban politicians need to learn the difference and carefully aim proposals affecting gun ownership directly at criminals. And not aim them at those of us who simply seek to protect ourselves, our families and our American freedom. —Mark Chesnut
