Host a Night Out

Cupertino residents who want to host a National Night Out event in their neighborhood have until July 29 to register their event with the city.

National Night Out is an annual campaign to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Each year on the first Tuesday in August—Aug. 9 this year—neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, cookouts and other community events featuring safety demonstrations, youth programs and visits from emergency personnel.

Teen wins Diana Award

Cupertino teen Aayush Goel, 17, recently received the Diana Award for his contributions toward the global mental health of youth. Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the award recognizes young people for social action or humanitarian efforts.

Aayush, a Cupertino High School student, started Apart But Not Alone with his sister Riyana to address their worries about how their learning would be impacted when schools shut down in March 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The nonprofit provides a free online platform to practice mindfulness led by certified industry leaders. Their workshops have been attended by over 2,400 people across Europe, Asia, and the US.
