HAYWARD — An Oakland man has been arrested and charged with human trafficking and other crimes after he allegedly held a woman against her will inside her own home and told her she could not leave until she agreed to prostitute for him, court records show.
Lovell Bullock, 25, of Oakland was charged Tuesday with human trafficking, false imprisonment, criminal threats, and two gun charges, including carrying a concealed weapon. He is set to enter a plea at his next court date, tentatively scheduled for July 18.
Bullock is in Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $390,000, according to jail records.
The charging records allege that Bullock held a Hayward woman at gunpoint from June 27 to June 29, when she was able to escape by saying she needed to use the bathroom outside. The woman told authorities that she and Bullock had one sexual encounter years ago but that he was no longer in her life. Police didn’t specify in court records how he came to be at her home.
After the woman escaped and contacted police, authorities surrounded the Hayward home and detained Bullock at gunpoint, according to authorities. He allegedly threw the pistol outside before surrendering; the alleged victim later identified it. Police say they found that the pistol had been reported stolen out of North Carolina.
During the two-day ordeal, the woman told police that Bullock pointed the gun at her and told her she wasn’t leaving until she agreed to prostitute for him. He allegedly took possession of her phone and refused to let her leave after she “begged” him. She also said Bullock “struck the right cheek of the victim’s face with the backside of his right hand,” police wrote in a probable cause statement.
Bullock refused to talk to police after his arrest, according to authorities.
