First came Flowers Restaurant, now Flower Flour bakery comes to Saratoga.

Flowers has become one of Saratoga’s most popular restaurants, showcasing imaginative “New American” cuisine in a shareable format. Love the yellow fin tuna ice cream cones and fried chicken with truffled honey sauce on the side, beautifully presented. www.flowerssaratoga.com

Another genre of imaginative eats, Flower Flour Patisserie and Artisan Cakes is open in the Village.

“Our signature chocolate cake is popular,” Manager Amye Dickson says. “My favorite is the guava mousse cake.”

Dickson says the owners chose Saratoga for Flower Flour’s third location “because it embodies what we strive for… family-friendly, neighborly and a great find on a small scale.”

They will create custom cakes (works of art) for weddings, birthdays or special events. Coffee, croissants and pastries are served inside or on their patio. 14598 Big Basin Way, www.flower-flour.com

The Saratoga Independence Day celebration will be back in full force July 4, with a 9:30 start time. It’s a great event with a band concert, parade around the park and free popsicles, and residents of all ages are encouraged to dress as historical figures. The free event will take place at Kevin Moran Park, 12415 Scully Ave.

In keeping with the Fourth of July theme, Patricia Himel and Laurel Perusa, co-chairs of “America the Beautiful,” encourage businesses and residents to join the patriotic decorating event, now in its 12th year. A Saratoga Village Development Council project, the goal is for businesses and residents to show patriotic spirit by decorating in red, white and blue.

The City of Saratoga is hosting Summer Movie Nights, free family-friendly movies screening outdoors at sundown. Bring your chairs and come early to find a good spot. Coming attractions: “Luca” on July 15 and a chance to sing-along while watching “Frozen” on Aug. 19. El Quito Park, 12855 Paseo Presada. www.saratoga.ca.us.

Cool Cars return to the Village on Sunday, July 24. Over two hundred classic and cool cars will gather along Big Basin Way for the 11th annual Saratoga Classic and Cool Car Show. The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce and the Cool Car Club of Saratoga, Los Gatos and Campbell sponsor this free public event. There will be a wide selection of food from local restaurants and food trucks, tasty beer and wine from local breweries and wineries, and a live band. If one day of classic cars isn’t enough, a week of events leads up to the Sunday classic. info@saratogachamber.org

High school students living in Saratoga are invited to apply for the Youth in Government Summer Internship Program. Mayor Tina Walia says, “This program is a phenomenal opportunity for students interested in learning about local government, becoming engaged citizens, choosing public service as a career or even running for office. The youth in our community are already insightful and demonstrate strong leadership skills, and this program can prepare them to lead Saratoga into the future.” The program cost is $50 per student. Space is limited; register by July 7 at www.saratoga.ca.us/yig
