Authorities arrested a 22-year-old San Francisco woman on suspicion of driving under the influence after her vehicle stopped on the Bay Bridge early Sunday morning and was hit moments later by a passing pickup trip, killing one of her passengers.

The 22-year-old man from Antioch was declared dead at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly before 3 a.m. on westbound Interstate 80, near Treasure Island, said Mark Andrews, a highway patrol spokesman. His name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

He was riding in the back seat of a 2007 Infiniti M45 when the sedan came to a stop in the left lane, possibly due to some kind of mechanical issue, Andrews said. Less than a minute later, a 2014 Nissan Frontier slammed into the back of the car.

The three other people in the Infiniti sedan were hospitalized with serious — but not life-threatening — injuries, Andrews said.

The driver of the Nissan was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released, Andrews said.

The crash temporarily shut down all traffic on the Bay Bridge, though all lanes were re-opened about two-and-a-half hours later.
