OAKLAND — One person died and several people were hospitalized after an injury shooting Thursday in a downtown Oakland bar, authorities said.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., police responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity in the 300 block of 14th Street.

When officers patrolling downtown arrived at a scene steps from Halftime Sports Bar, 316 14th St., they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds, followed by a third person soon after. About fifteen minutes later, officers learned a fourth person managed to obtain their own transportation to a hospital.

Despite first responder efforts, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The killing is the 52nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has investigated four homicides on Oakland freeways. Last year at this time police had investigated 57 homicides in the city.

Firefighters and paramedics also responded, providing care before taking victims to a hospital. Those victims’ conditions were not immediately available late Thursday.

Investigators did not immediately share any associated suspect or vehicle description.

The bar was the scene of a March 2019 shooting that injured four people. An Oakland man later surrendered to police and was charged in that incident.
