The historic outdoor display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt came to the Robin Williams Meadow in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park this weekend.
The 35th anniversary event was free to the public and featured more than 3,000 quilt panels. It’s the largest display of the Quilt in the U.S. in over a decade and the largest-ever AIDS quilt display in San Francisco history.
Attendees included community leaders, quilt panel-makers and long-term survivors. Speakers and performers included Quilt Co-Founders Cleve Jones, Mike Smith, Gert McMullin, Dafina Ward, Executive Director of the Southern AIDS Coalition, Duane Cramer & Jada Harris, National AIDS Memorial Call My Name, California State Senator Scott Weiner and Members of SF Gay Men’s Chorus.
Under the stewardship of the National AIDS Memorial, the Quilt has surpassed 50,000 individually sewn panels with more than 110,000 names stitched into its 54 tons of fabric. Learn more here or search for a panel.
