A man died early Sunday morning when his motorcycle crashed in Berkeley.
The motorcyclist, who was about 50 years old, was riding on Adeline Street between Alcatraz Avenue and Stanford Street when the crash happened, according to Lt. Kevin Reece of the Berkeley Police Department. Officers were called at 12:03 a.m., and arrived to find the man dead.
The man’s name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Reece said.
The crash marks the first traffic fatality this year in Berkeley, Reece said. In 2021, eight people died in seven crashes in the city.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what caused the man to lose control of his motorcycle. Anyone with information about the crash can call 510-981-5980
