I know one thing to be true and one thing only—the Reese’s Puffs theme slaps. Cereal is integral to American food culture and many of us spent our childhoods enjoying these sugary breakfast treats. There are so many iconic cereals out there, many of which came with an equally legendary mascot.
One of our favorite cereal mascots, Tony the Tiger was introduced to the masses on a box of Frosted Flakes in 1952. His original design was created by graphic artist Eugene Kolkey and art director Leo Burnett. Tony was later brought to life through an animation team known as Quartet Films, who also animated Rice Krispies’ Snap, Crackle and Pop. Another very popular cereal mascot, Toucan Sam, made his debut in 1963 and was designed by Manuel R. Vega. Toucan Sam was initially voiced by Mel Blanc, who also voiced Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Barney Rubble. Some of our other favorite cereal mascots include Horatio Magellin Crunch (a.k.a. Cap’n Crunch), the Trix Rabbit of Trix, Lucky the Leprechaun of Lucky Charms, Buzz of Honey Nut Cheerios and Sugar Bear of Golden Crisp.
