House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was arrested late Saturday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a collision, authorities said.

Paul Pelosi, 82, was booked into Napa County Jail at around 4 a.m. Sunday for two misdemeanors, which included driving with a blood alcohol level above .08 percent. He was released Sunday morning. His bail was set at $5,000, jail records show.

According to preliminary information shared Sunday night by the California Highway Patrol, CHP officers from its Napa unit responded at 10:26 p.m. to reports of a collision at Highway 29 and Walnut Road in Oakville.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles involved in a collision. According to the CHP, Pelosi’s 2021 Porsche was traveling eastbound on Walnut and was crossing the highway when a 2014 Jeep traveling northbound on the highway struck it.

Neither Pelosi or the Jeep’s driver, a 48-year-olld Calistoga man, were injured. Both men were wearing their seatbelts, the CHP said.

House Speaker spokesman Drew Hammill said in an emailed statement, “The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter, which occurred while she was on the East Coast.”

Nancy Pelosi was at Brown University in Rhode Island on Sunday to give a commencement speech.

The couple have been married since 1963. Pelosi is a businessman and owner of Financial Leasing Services Inc., a Bay Area investment and real estate firm.

Details of the arrest were first reported by TMZ.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information may call the CHP’s Napa office at 707-253-4906.
