With winds expected to pick up off the California coast this Memorial Day Weekend, the National Weather Service has issued an advisory for hazardous marine conditions.
The advisory goes into effect Saturday evening and will run through early next week. Brayden Murdock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told this news organization that hazardous conditions are expected to begin in the outer waters — about 10 nautical miles off the coast — Saturday evening.
“Any portion of the coast is eventually going to see gale warnings in effect,” he added.
Gale force winds are expected to produce gusts of over 40 miles per hours as well as 10 to 15 foot waves.
The National Weather Service recommends that boaters remain in port and secure their vessels.
