PITTSBURG — A male driver died in a fiery solo vehicle crash that blocked off a Highway 4 off-ramp for at least an hour Wednesday, authorities said.

In a statement, https://www.facebook.com/CHPContraCosta/posts/377180801104267 the California Highway Patrol said officers responded around 10:15 a.m. to a report of the crash off eastbound Hwy. 4 lanes on the south Bailey Road off-ramp.

When officers arrived, they found an eastbound Hyundai Tucson leaving the highway had struck an off-ramp guardrail before catching fire and becoming fully engulfed in flames.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters and paramedics also responded to the scene to provide care, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not available, pending next-of-kin notification from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division.

CHP officers issued a Sig-alert for about an hour closing down the off-ramp to allow for evidence collection. Anyone with information on the crash may call the CHP’s Martinez office at 925-646-4980.
